Gaining weight the healthy way is hard work. This is just the same as trying to loose weight. In order to succeed, one is required to adopt a new way of life, which includes combining the right dietary measures with changes in one’s lifestyle. The right diet is especially important, because, cliché as this may sound; a person is what he or she eats. The most important dietary components in a weight gain diet are calories. Nutritionists agree that although underweight people may think that they eat a lot without gaining weight, the truth is that they do not actually eat enough food to guarantee weight gain. Here are foods to consider while formulating a weight gain dietary plan.

  • Carbohydrates: A person willing to gain weight should ensure that they eat sufficient carbohydrates. Foods in this food group have sufficient calories, which in turn help one to gain weight. Ideally, a person seeking to gain weight should steer clear of the refined carbohydrates and instead eat complex carbohydrates in every major meal of the day. Carbohydrates are made of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen, components that give the human body energy and heat
  • Proteins: Foods in this group help build muscle, and also help in overall body development.
  • Vitamins: These are responsible for overall good health. They provide the body with vital minerals, which not only promote good health, but also improve the body’s immunity.
  • Good oils: These include the likes of omega III. Oils in this category have low cholesterol levels.
